Derry City ready for Skonto battle
Derry City will be looking to qualify for the final qualification round of the 2009/2010 Europa League when they take on Skonto FC in the second leg of their second qualifying round Europa League tie on Thursday evening.
Last week’s first leg encounter between the two clubs produced a 1-1 draw, with Derry gaining a slight away goal advantage from the tie. With the return fixture being played in front of the Fir Park faithful, manager Stephen Kerry is optimistic about his team’s prospects.
“Derry City, in its history in European football, has only progressed to the next round on three occasions, so it’s a big night for everyone involved with the club and indeed, the north-west area and we have an opportunity to progress,” Kenny told the Belfast Telegraph.
“If we can get through, it will be another special night in Derry City history. It’s another big game for us and make no mistake about it they will be pushing us all the way in an attempt to overturn our result out there.”
“I’ve no doubt that it will prove to be a battle and I expect an epic game which will not be for the faint-hearted.”
