Jol rejects City links

Hamburg coach Martin Jol has rejected rumours that he is considering a move to his club’s UEFA Europa League quarterfinal opponents, Manchester City.

Jol presided over Hamburg’s 3-1 demolition of City in Germany last week, and the performance of his under-strength team convinced some commentators that he’d be the ideal man to take over from the club’s incumbent manager, Mark Hughes.

“The name Jol gets bandied about at every English club which happens to have a problem with its coach. It really gets on my nerves. But I’m not thinking about it in the slightest,” Jol told Bilt.

“I am at a great club with great fans with a great environment, the likes of which few clubs can boast in Europe. I am very happy here.”

Hamburg are strong favourites to oust Manchester City from the UEFA Europa League on Thursday evening, as the home team face the tough task of beating the Bundesliga topping Hamburg by a clear 3 goal margin.

Whether or not Martin Jol leaves Hamburg is unlikely to have a significant impact on Mark Hughes future at Manchester City, with a defeat in tonight’s match likely to spell the beginning of the end for Hughes.
