Bridge looking forward to City debut
Manchester City’s new signing, Wayne Bridge, is looking forward to making his debut for the club against Portsmouth on Saturday.
Bridge was recently signed to City from Chelsea, after spending two frustrating seasons as a part-timer in the Chelsea side.
Constantly playing second fiddle to Ashley Cole eventually convinced Bridge that the time had come to depart Stamford Bridge and ply his trade in a team that would give him game-time.
“There was a time when I would have a run of games strung together, but then Ashley would come straight back in,” Bridge told Sky Sports.
“I just felt that it was never going to work for me there. I was always on my phone to me agent, saying I don’t think this is going to happen. It was time to move.”
Bridge has a received an enthusiastic reception at Manchester City, and manager Mark Hughes is looking forward to having another top quality footballer to his team.
“We are delighted he’s here,” Hughes told Sky Sports. “He has the right quality and determination to show people exactly what he can do and that’s the type of player we need here.”
