Manchester lose strike trio to injury

Manchester City are aiming to finish the UEFA Europa League group stage at the top of Group A tonight, but will have to go about this task with several key players on the sidelines due to injury.

Amongst the players expected to sit out the clash with French side PSG are Robinho, Micah Richards and Shaun Wright-Phillips, all of whom are vital cogs in the City machinery.

“Shaun took a knock to the ankle on Sunday and is struggling,” Mark Hughes said on the Manchester City website. “Robinho’s ankle is sore and Micah, who came off on Sunday, is a doubt as well.”

However, Hughes will know that the club is under minimal pressure going into the match, having secured qualification for the knockout rounds of the UEFA Europa League last week. Hughes even admitted that he may have chosen to rest some of his key players even if injuries hadn’t been an issue.

“Changes are being forced upon me, but it was always on my mind that I’d look at this game and hopefully be in a position to rest some players that have had a big workload in recent weeks. That’s still the case, but winning the group is important to us.”
