PSG sign Kežman for UEFA Europa League
French club PSG have wrapped up preparations for their 2008/2009 UEFA Europa League campaign by signing Serbian forward Mateja Kežman.
Kežman is the last in a spate of signings by PSG that has seen them go on a spending spree to improve the depth and quality of their UEFA Europa League squad. Kežman is reported to have cost PSG €4 million on a permanent transfer from Turkish club Fenerbahce.
Kežman made an impressive debut for FK Partizan in 1998 before moving to Dutch club PSV, where he averaged almost a goal a game in 122 appearances. The Serbian then enjoyed spells in the Premier League with Chelsea and La Liga with Atletico Madrid before transferring to Turkey, where he scored 20 goals in 46 games for Fenerbahce.
The recent arrival of Luis Aragones at Fenerbahce is believed to have prompted Kežman’s departure, as the Serb was expecting to spend a significant part of the coming season on the bench.
Kežman is expected to line up for the first of PSG’s UEFA Europa League matches on the 18th of September, alongside other recent signings Claude Makelele, Ludovic Giuly and Stéphane Sessegnon.
