Midtjyllandat conquer City
Manchester City put their 2008 UEFA Europa League campaign at risk on Thursday night, when they lost a crucial home encounter against FC Midtjyllandat in the first leg of their 2nd round UEFA Europa League qualifying tie.
The Danish side scored the only goal of the game through Danny Olsen on 25 minutes, and were good enough to keep City off the scoreboard and take the points going into their home fixture.
Manchester City were lucky that they didn’t end up taking a two goal deficit into their away game, after Dunne miscued a header which ‘keeper Petrov was fortunate to keep off the line.
The performance left Manchester City coach Mark Hughes struggling to explain how a Premiership club had been beaten by a club from a much weaker league.
“Perhaps we were a little bit behind them in terms of sharpness and match fitness but that is no excuse for tonight,” Hughes told ITV4 after the match. “We needed to be dynamic and more personality and drive the play. Fair play to the opposition though they understand the counter-attack game and executed it well.”
