Manchester City fans set off on Faroe odyssey

Fans of Manchester City have are looking to prove that they are some of the most dedicated in football by pullling out all the stops to attend Manchester City’s first UEFA Europa League game against EB Streymur in the Faroe Islands.

With tickets to the North Atlantic Faroe Islands coming at a premium, 12 Manchester City football fans have refused to be put off their quest to follow their beloved team anywhere, and have hired a deep sea trawler to take them to this early UEFA Europa League encounter.

The odyssey facing the Manchester City fans includes an 8 hour drive to the Scottish port town of Aberdeen, a 12 hour ferry crossing to the Shetland Islands, and finally an 8 hour journey with the trawler to the Faroe Islands arriving just in time for the 2008 UEFA Europa League match.

Trip organiser Leighton Gobbet explained his motives for the trip to the Daily Mirror, saying: “This should be the funniest trip ever to a football match. It is for people who want a trip of a lifetime and are up for a laugh."

Football magazine FourFourTwo have agreed to help fund the trip after catching wind of the Manchester City fans’ plans to follow their club the ends of the earth.
