2008 UEFA Europa League semi-final report

The first leg of the 2008 UEFA Europa League semi-finals provided two draws this week as none of the four teams left in the tournament managed to establish dominance in the penultimate knockout round.

Russian club Zenit will be happy with results from the first leg of the semi-finals after managing to hold German club Bayern Munich to a draw at the Allianz Arena in Munich.

Bayern scored first in a game they had always expected to win with ease, with Frank Ribery scoring in the 18th minute. Zenit responded with a period of positive play that saw them rewarded with the equaliser as Lucio scored of a header in the 60th minute.

Zenit head into the second leg of the 2008 UEFA Europa League semi-finals with the advantage of an away goal, and a home tie for their final game.

The second game of the 2008 UEFA Europa League semi-finals produced a goalless draw. Rangers and Fiorentina both played defensive games, with neither able to create scoring chances. Rangers will now have to win in Florence to progress through to the 2008 UEFA Europa League finals.

The next round of 2008 UEFA Europa League semi finals will take place on the 1st of May.
